All utopian ideologies which claim perfectibility in the here and now – whether secular or religious – lead to tyranny.

Inevitably, they are reduced to seeking unlimited power as the only way to achieve their unrealistic goals …

Under the rationale of the greater “good”.

Ultimately, they can’t allow opposing views to get in the way of creating a perfect society as they naively seek to perfect humanity …

Through coercion if necessary.

In contrast, civic liberty this side of Heaven only comes from acknowledging human imperfectibility …

By restraining unlimited power so we can pursue our own “good”, each according to the dictates of our own individual conscience before God and each other.
