Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Don’t be insane.
Stop defending church as you’ve come to know it …
And start being the church as the New Testament actually shows it.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Don’t be insane.
Stop defending church as you’ve come to know it …
And start being the church as the New Testament actually shows it.
In the Old Testament, false prophets were stoned.
Some things never seem to change.
The crazy stuff said by modern day false prophets shows they’re still stoned.
Seriously, they need to get a grip on reality …
And stop smokin’ that illicit weed.
I love going to jail …
And being part of some of the best church in town.
Most “jail ministry” imports “church” or tries to “do church” for inmates.
It’s much more fun, instead, to let them be the church …
By allowing Christ to indigenously come alive in them, through among and among them as they learn to minister one to another and become His disciples where they live.
After all, isn’t that the heart of the Great Commission?
So you’re structuring and operating a “church” like a business to secure your own position and vocation as the pinnacle leader …
i.e., the “Senior” or “Lead Pastor.”
Where do you even find that in the New Testament?
You don’t.
It’s better to pay the price for truth, than to earn your pay from a lie …
Because in God’s economy, integrity matters.
I vote and promote civic virtue and good government in the community and nation where I live.
That’s because I serve a King who has not surrendered one square inch of His sovereign love and lordship over any part of His creation.
Bottom line:
Moral cynicism and cultural nihilism are not Christian values.
So why the difference between the diverse, flat leadership found in relational participatory churches as taught in the New Testament …
And the monopolistic, pinnacle leadership often found in institutional churches that are rooted in post-New Testament presumptions and traditions?
There are many, but here’s an important one:
Church “leadership” and “ministry” are not about hierarchical organizational charts with titles and positions.
That has more to do with personal privilege, advantage and control …
Than humbly learning to dynamically function together as we prefer one another above ourselves in our different callings by using our diverse gifts to serve each other and submit one to another.
The former comes from the world of secular corporations.
The latter, from the heart of God.
Don’t be deceived by false claims of “compassion” by repressive “progressives.”
Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek, to give the coat off our back, and to help the poor.
But He never said to use government coercion to do it for us …
Or to force others to pay for it.
You can’t find a single instance in all of Scripture, by example or precept, where government is given authority to usurp our individual obligation …
To be our brother’s keeper.
And thus we are left with the fundamental error of repressive “progressives,” who want government to assume the burdens of compassion which they won’t bear themselves …
While compelling everyone else to pay for it.
Scripture has lots to say about the proper role and authority of civil governments.
For example, God primarily tasks civil authorities with an obligation to protect the innocent from evil doers …
So we may live peaceable lives that allow us to fulfill our own obligations to take care of ourselves and each other.
But nowhere in Scripture does God empower government to usurp our personal obligations of individual responsibility and charity.
Turn to Scripture and prove me wrong.
Otherwise, you make an idol out of government power, expecting it to do and fix what God commands of us as individuals to do and fix …
Through personal initiative and voluntary cooperation.
Do God’s will and there’s very little we can’t accomplish together …
Once we give up the need to control it, own it or brand it.
“Worship” in the New Testament means living lives of sacrificial service and reverent obedience …
On God’s behalf.
Today it means a Sunday “service” performed by a hip band and some “Reverend” …
On our behalf.
Let’s return to the simple faith, simple virtue and simple church of Scripture.
Don’t be trapped …
By the successes of your past.
Nothing in the original language or context of the New Testament even remotely matches our current, prevailing concepts of …
“Church,” “pastor,” “teach,” “preach,” “tithe,” “ministry,” “communion,” “worship,” and so much more.

Which begs the question:
What do people think they’re actually doing each Sunday morning?
Is it just an edifice built on post-Biblical human traditions and contradictions …
Continue reading“Religion” has become a pejorative term by existential “believers” …
In an attempt to dismiss Biblical imperatives they don’t like.
Apparently, the idea of any duty owed to God offends their “progressive” sensibilities.
So they live lives of doubt and despair …
Because authentic freedom only comes from Godly obedience.
Perhaps they should repent …
And enjoy a little more true religion instead!
😎
When “faith” is reduced to individual subjective beliefs and perceptions …
Truth becomes hate speech and virtue an outrage.
Needing to be called “Apostle,” “Prophet” or any other exalted title is a sure sign you ain’t one.
And please …
Don’t tell me how Paul called himself an “Apostle,” because – seriously – you’re no Paul.
Plus, in the language of his day that wasn’t a title but simply a function …
Describing anyone serving – while on mission – as another’s representative.
And it wasn’t an exalted role, but usually referred to the lowest slaves who were used as menial messengers …
Because they were the least essential and most expendable.
Perhaps that explains why we don’t see any so-called “Apostles” today who meet Paul’s job description:
“Instead, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display, like prisoners of war at the end of a victor’s parade, condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the entire world – to people and angels alike. Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you claim to be so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are honored, but we are ridiculed. Even now we go hungry and thirsty, and we don’t have enough clothes to keep warm. We are often beaten and have no home. We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us. We appeal gently when evil things are said about us. Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash – right up to the present moment.” 1 Cor. 4:9-13
Effective, liberating forgiveness can’t occur unless we fully acknowledge the underlying wrong that plagues us;
How wrong the wrong is; and
What our heart truly feels because of it …
Whether committed by us or against us.
Only when we stop minimizing, rationalizing or excusing the offense …
Can we fully give it to the Lord.
And be free.
Moral norms or normalized evil?
When it comes to the basis for our laws, there is no neutrality …
There is no middle ground.
So when you vote for those who want to make them …
Choose wisely.
Some claim that doubt and angst are a form of “faith.”
But that’s not true …
Because ultimately, that would make faith all about us.
Rather, faith is trust and confidence in the One who knows all, even when we don’t understand.
Getting there might mean struggling with doubt and angst …
But don’t confuse the journey with the destination.
That’s why the new anti-faith definition of faith by “Christian” progressives and other “religious” existentialists …
Leaves them stuck with themselves.
Let’s avoid their dead ends …
And boldly move forward towards true faith, which comes from God Himself.
The church as commanded in the New Testament:
Simple relational gatherings of people who encourage and minister to one another in their different gifts and callings …
Not staged events by captivating “pastors” with their hip “worship” bands.
Let’s be the church …
And change the world once again.
Don’t waste your life:
If it ain’t worth dying for …
Then it likely ain’t worth living for either.
Jesus never said to be a “servant leader.”
Instead, He said to be a servant …
Just a servant (period).
Anything else is more about you …
Than about Him or others.
The measure of spiritual maturity is not perfection …
But how we deal with our imperfection.
We have it all backwards:
We designate a local leader and hope a church emerges around them.
In the New Testament, however, Paul started local fellowships first then let leaders emerge within them.
Big difference!
Often, we had no choice over bad things that happened in our past …
But whether we let them define us or instead turn them over to God is always our choice.
Failing to fully surrender them to Him, however …
Is why experiencing relational participatory church is so difficult for so many.
Consider this:
Actual relational participatory church is impossible …
Unless we learn to prefer one another above ourselves.
Continue readingIn marriage, the greatest gift we can give each other is the ability to love and be loved.
Wounds from past hurts, wrongs and regrets brought into marriage make this all too rare these days.
To give and receive the gift of love, then …
Care enough to pursue emotional health and spiritual wholeness.
Love may be gentle and kind …
But it also speaks truth, resists evil and defends the innocent.
