So you’re tired of attending an impersonal Sunday event each week designed to build up a “church” …
And wanna find a relational community of believers who gather together to build up one another instead?
That’s great, but let’s start with understanding the differences between them, otherwise it’s too easy to drift back into old, unbiblical habits …
Rather than pressing forward towards actually being the church as specifically commanded in Scripture.
Most people presume that spectator oriented mono-churches are God’s intended norm, despite not being found anywhere in the New Testament …
Rather than the now uncommon, but Biblically based, relational participatory churches found in the New Testament.
The former are about the one:
A “senior pastor” and his ministry, his position, his leadership, his credentials, his appeal, his building, his staff, his pulpit, his ministry team …
And all the support, funding and infrastructure needed to attract maximum attendance by showcasing his preaching and his “worship team” every Sunday morning.
But the latter kind of churches are about one another:
That’s it …
Just one another.
When it comes to being the church as shown in the New Testament, there’s really no need to make it more complicated:
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Pet. 4:10
So how do you leave unbiblical mono-churches behind and start being the church?
Here’s my simple suggestion, based on my own experiences:
Step out in faith and start gathering weekly with just few others (one or two is enough if that’s all you have) to learn to share life together while sharing the Lord’s Supper as a full, interactive, conversational meal at someone’s home …
And see what God will do as you learn to relate together, be transparent, and minister one to another by serving each other out of the varied grace and diverse gifts He’s distributed between you.
You know …
Like Scripture actually shows and commands:
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thes. 5:11
All you need to do to start is to focus on building up one another …
And let Christ do His work to build up His Church among you – His way, as He wants.
Honestly, let Him build His church …
As you build up one another.
Don’t make it so complicated!
Got it?
Then go get it!!!
And as you move forward in obedience to what Christ commands, feel free to reach out, post questions and share your experiences.
I love the interaction and hearing from others!
